Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.), a Sufi mystic from Sri Lanka, was a man of extraordinary wisdom and compassion. For over seventy years, he shared his knowledge and experience with people of every race and religion, from all walks of life. He first came to the United States in 1971 and established the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship of North America in Philadelphia. Since then, branches have spread throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Sri Lanka, Australia, and the U.K.

M.R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.), was known for his ability to bring unity and wisdom to the faithful of all religions.

Little is recorded of his early personal history. Information about his life begins early in the twentieth century when pilgrims traveling through the jungles of Sri Lanka caught sight of a holy man whose depth of divine knowledge was extraordinary. Sometime later, he was invited to a village in the Jaffna area where his public life, first as a healer and then as a teacher of wisdom, began.
